Dense Phase

Dense phase pneumatic conveying is used particularly for moving abrasive and difficult materials. The sand, cement and glass industries are examples. This method should be used where the product is delicate or fragile, or where it would lose its physical properties during transfer.

Because the material is abrasive, it does not strike the pipe wall at high speed but moves together with the high-pressure air-product mixture. For example, bulk cement tanker silo loading works with this method. High-pressure air is first fed into the tank, then a valve is opened and the high-pressure air-product mixture is transferred to the silo.
